FULL COLOR CD ARTWORK WITH DELUXE GATEFOLD DIGI-PACK Marshall Law's musical aspirations started at the early age of nine, inspired by piano lessons that his Mother insisted upon when paying the rent and putting food on the table was already a struggle. But financial hardships didn't discourage his family's support for Marshall's unusual interest in music; his expensive piano lessons were simply replaced with a Casio keyboard. In school he experimented with multiple musical instruments, eventually earning a seat in the school band playing the trombone and the embarrassing tuba. By high school he changed over to the "cooler" sounds of the bass guitar, playing in the schools jazz band and a couple of sorted bands. Born and growing up in the harsh urban environment of New York City, Marshall - like many city kids, went through his stage of street activity, causing his share of trouble. Hip-hop music and culture became his main interest, writing graffiti on city property and of course the turntables were now his musical instruments of choice. While he dropped out of high school and got heavily into New York's underground rave scene, Marshall's interest grew to embrace the drum n' bass / jungle music culture. It was at a rave that Marshall would meet his girlfriend Isabel, who with the power of female persuasion was able to turn him around and convince him to finish school and pursue his musical goals. After two blurry years Marshall returned to finish at West Side Alternative High School in Manhattan. Through West Side he was given the opportunity to intern at a radio station, where his access to recording equipment sparked a sudden interest in music production. Ironically the internship and his production of a documentary earned him honors by the National Council Of Crime And Delinquency. Marshall's progression from production, lead to engineering and ultimately engineering - production. His engineering expertise took him through many recording studios, assisting in sessions for various artists such as Thelonious Monk Jr., The Misfits, Masters At Work, etc., Marshall's senses became keen to all musical genres, his ears had already been influenced by the wide range of sounds from The Nite Liters, Dust Brothers, Tribe Called Quest, Bobby Womack, Roni Size, Herbie Hancock, DJ Premier, Timbaland, Bob James, Louis Armstrong, Delfonics, Primus… In recent times Marshall has toured the world as stage manager and engineer for turntablist group the X-ecutioners, while still advancing himself in the recording studio as a member of the X-ecutioners production team and as artist / producer under the name "Marshall Law", which he acquired through years as an activist in the campaign to end the death penalty. It is his political and social views that shaped his own sound that he labels "Leftist Hip Hop". As he keeps developing his leftist hip hop sound, he continues to express his passion for drum n' bass beats as he collaborates with high caliber lyricists like B-Real of Cypress Hill and Juelz Santana of The Diplomats. And never putting limitations on himself, he composes music for everything from remote control car toys for Mattel, to scoring a soccer documentary for Nike, but the real intellect of Marshall Law lies in his leftist hip hop and jungle masterpieces.
